Monday was the
first time I had completed a stock take using the hand held only.
The search
facility was a lot quicker, it searched the whole word and part
words, this is really helpful when you have many similar items but
with different flavours, it means you get the item you want and
not a list of items with a similar name.
There is now no
need to go to another menu screen to add differing count sizes as
all you options are there you just scroll across.
The stock count
took around an hour longer than usual, but it would then take 4
hours plus to enter all the written items into OC.
Stock results
where then only available after I had found time to sit and input
all the frozen items.
Now for the first
time I had an immediate result, I sat with chef we looked at the
result, we checked a few items and agreed and finalised the stock
the same day.
This is the first
time we had ever had a result the same day as the stock take.
I had set up many
items using bar codes, but we never used the bar code reader once.
Once all bar
codes are set up we will use this in stock taking, this I think
will save us even more time.
This is so much
better, it was a joy to use and made stock taking so much easier.
I keep all housekeeping, mini bar and leisure stocks on OC, all
these stocks are counted by hand.
Now with the speed of the new software I am considering using it for all stock takes.

» What kind of Handheld unit do I need to use OCMobile?
OCMobile is designed to be used on a Windows Pocket PC 2003 or newer system or Windows mobile.
» Can OCMobile work on a CE based system?
OCmobile only works on a Pocket PC or Windows mobile handheld device.
» What kind of barcode scanner should I use?
Both Symbol and Socket based scanning systems will work fine. Any PocketPC using the correct operating system and has barcode scanning capabilities can be used.
» Can I use more than one OCMobile for a single inventory? For example, I have three managers and want them each to count their own categories of inventory and consolidate the information to one inventory count?
Yes. The program is designed to ask you whether you want to overwrite or Add the new counts to the existing.
» Can I create barcodes for things like batch recipes?
Optimum Control contains a feature that allows you to generate a barcode and label that can be printed using a Brother QL570 label printer. These labels will allow you to scan your inventory and also create “price tags” to go on to your shelves.
» Does OCmobile work wirelessly?
No. OCMobile uses Activesync to transfer data to the computer through a USB cord or the handheld’s cradle.
» Can I use the PDA to receive inventory?
No. OCMobile can used to create the orders and upload to suppliers. The scanning of invoices to receive is not an option at this time. The EDI import for Optimum Control is a better solution as it allows you to download directly into the software.
» Does Competitive Contract Services sell PDA’s or mobile computers.
Competitive Contract Services does not sell any hardware but we can assist if required or please consult your local retailer or on line suppliers.
» How many computers can I install the Pocket PC Software?
You can install the desktop version of the Pocket PC software on one PC only, that PC must also have the Optimum Control software installed on it.
» If I have made a change to my stock on the PDA can I re-upload my data?
Yes. Every time you go to upload your data, you will need to re-export your data from the PDA.
